Euan Evans: The Royal Drawing School Interview

We’re delighted to share this insightful interview with Euan Evans from the Royal Drawing School. (Video credit: Royal Drawing School and Michael Chance)

Euan is one of the newest artists to join the Young Collectors Emerging Artist Programme and exhibited at Fen Ditton Gallery for the first time in February 2023.

Euan Evans (b.1996, Cornwall) studied Jazz at Leeds Conservatoire and is a recent graduate of the Royal Drawing School. He enjoys exploring the interactions between improvisation, texture, and composition through different visual enquiries. Euan’s work is often self-mythologising and finds agency through textural interplay and specific uses of colour. His practice includes drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

During lockdown, Euan began keeping a daily drawing journal, exploring the ways in which he could use the sketchbook as an archive of that time. Some of the images are from observation, others depart from that and have been drawn away from the subject in order to relay a memory or feeling of that moment or place, rather than a record. Some of the works that we are showing, have been taken directly from Euan’s sketchbooks.

Euan is currently studying MA Printmaking at  Royal College of Art, where he continues to investigate translating personal experience into material processes.

We are delighted that two of Euan's works Rocks I and Lerryn are off to the home of a new collector. Here's what they had to say:

"I’m thrilled to be collecting these two works by Euan Evans. He seems set for success and I’m sure I will enjoy these two special works for many years. It’s great to know about you too and your exciting project connecting upcoming artists with newer collectors."
