Hannah guest judge at Cambridge Open Art Exhibition

I was delighted to have been invited to be the guest judge at the Cambridge Open Art exhibition, which took place at Swavsey Village College on the 14th and 15th October.

My task was to pick 4 winners of the HMC Framing Prizes for ‘Outstanding Artists’ from the 240 works of art on display! The overall winner was selected by the visitors in a ‘People’s Choice’ Award.

One of the artists I selected for the prize was Greta Miksaite, whose two large embroidery works (pictured below) were so vibrant and uplifting! It was fantastic to see a traditional craft like embroidery being used in contemporary art to challenge the pre-conceptions we have of the medium. Perhaps this was on my mind, having just opening the Fen Ditton Gallery ‘Going Yellow’ exhibition with the exquisite weaving of Ptolemy Mann. You can listen to a recent interview I did with her, including our conversation about textiles in the contemporary art market, on the Fen Ditton Gallery podcast.

Thank you to the Cambridge Open Art Exhibition for inviting me to be a judge. It was great to see such a variety of exciting work on show.
