Julie Annis | Arc in the Sky

The open vistas of Sussex downland are at the core of Julia Annis’ work. Annis lives within 4 miles of the foot of the South Downs, and this strip of hill dominates the landscape and acts as a way marker and compass point for those that live nearby. These hills have left a soft imprint on Annis’ life, backdropping her memories and nurturing a sense of place that feeds into her paintings.

Process too is very important to Annis, and she has developed a series of image making stages that combine various techniques of surface building and mark making. Drawings are made directly in the landscape, recorded quickly in a sketchbook. Later on in the studio, Annis develops these initial sketches into loose interpretations of moments and memories with paint, collage, and monoprinting. These elements are pieced together to create dreamlike landscapes, interspersed with personal motifs and layers of colour and texture. For her, this process references crafted objects of reverence and ritual, thus creating a shrine like response to the transcendent experience of being in the landscape.

The work of art must be returned in its original condition, in its original packaging, securely wrapped. Refunds will not be issued if we receive the item damaged.

If you have received an item that has been damaged, you must notify us by emailing hello@youngcollectors.art within 24 hours of the delivery. Please include photographs of the packaging and damage to the work. Do not dispose of the damaged work of art or its packaging.
